On August 1, 2016, Los Ojos co-founder and director Karl Hinojosa passed away unexpectedly. Karl was a strong-willed entrepreneur, a devoted advocate for emerging artists, and a generous and loyal friend.
Karl moved to New York in 2007 and immediately found a home in the Chelsea gallery scene. After working at the Robert Miller and Tanya Bonakdar galleries, he pursued a new career in finance and accounting, but kept the art world in his sights.
In 2014, Karl opened Los Ojos with Brendan Berg as a platform to showcase emerging and early career artists. Karl’s passion and dedication was readily apparent in the energy and vision he brought to the gallery. His exceptional promotion of emerging artists quickly cemented his reputation as a champion of New York’s artist community. Over the course of two years, Karl dilligently honed the fledgling gallery’s innovative program.
